Compensation philosophy

Samsara’s compensation philosophy is to provide a total compensation program (base pay, corporate bonuses or commissions, and equity) that is at or above market. 

Our compensation philosophy is based on four pillars:

  • Competitive: Samsara’s compensation program is designed to deliver total compensation (based on role, level, and geography) that is at or above market for all software and hardware companies. 

  • Pay for Performance: We provide differentiated and enhanced rewards for top performers.

  • Fair and Equitable: We compensate our employees fairly regardless of their gender, identity, race, ethnicity, or other protected category.

  • Transparent: We educate our employees on our compensation practices and pay decisions so they understand how to value their total rewards package

Compensation at Samsara

There are three components of Samsara’s compensation program: base pay, corporate bonus or sales commissions, and equity. We want to reward individuals for performance, while working toward collective company goals. Explore this site for more details on what’s included in your total rewards package.

BASE PAY

Your base salary is determined by your job level, function and location. Salary ranges are based on industry benchmarks and reviewed annually.

CORPORATE BONUS

All employees (excluding those in quota roles and interns) who meet the eligibility criteria are eligible for a corporate bonus based on company performance. Bonuses are discretionary and paid out approximately eight weeks after the end of the fiscal quarter. Quota-carrying employees are not eligible for this bonus as they participate in the commission program instead.

COMMISSIONS

Sales employees receive a base salary, but also earn commissions based on achievement. Together, these two elements are known as "on-target earnings" or "OTE.”

EQUITY 

Eligible employees receive equity awards in the form of Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). RSUs vest quarterly over three years in most cases, subject to plan terms and conditions.

EMPLOYEE STOCK PURCHASE PLAN (ESPP)

The ESPP gives eligible employees the opportunity to purchase shares of company stock through after-tax payroll deductions at a 15% discount with no broker fees.
